All I can say in response to brat mouth’s distinctly underwhelming comments is: a) His name says it all; b) He has no future as a poet (or anything else by the sound of his immature rantings) and c) It’s good to know people are so riled by our anti-ageist stance! That just strengthens our belief that we urgently need to change attitudes to getting older. Keep the mindless comments coming, you ageist bores!

What a narrow-minded, tunnel-visioned old git wilardkiller is! If his comments (and his photo) are anything to go by, he has already given up and accepted that senility and physical degeneration cannot be tackled in anyway. He obviously has a real problem with self-image, so he just takes pot shots at those who like to make the best of themselves. The Italians have a saying ‘The old will die; the young can die’, which highlights the fact that life and death are two sides of the same coin. The Grim Reaper can come and get you at any time, whether you are nine or 90. We have no way of knowing when our time is up but in my view we might as well make the best of the time we have before we shuffle off this mortal coil, as Shakespeare put it. For me, that means keeping yourself as fit and productive as possible. Looking after yourself has nothing to do with denying reality; it’s about not adopting a feeble-minded ‘what can I do about it?’ approach like wilardkiller and his pathetic ilk.

Mark is right to a certain extent – there is a hint of exploitation about The Zimmers but for me it’s more about the image they present. They look old and decrepit; musically they are awful and the lead singer has as much idea of how to put over a song as my mother’s parrot. It was a great concept but they went about it the wrong way. In essence, they are just going through the motions. As Mark says, there are enough real bands of a certain age – the Stones and The Who being just two examples – who could and should have been used for this project. Or, at the very least, they should have found octogenarians with extra octanes to give the song some real ooomph!

I agree. There is something that smacks of explotation about the Zimmers. It’s even worse than that’s kid’s choir of years ago that released ‘Theres no quite like grandma.’ I am all for genuine bands consisting of wrinkly rockers (the Stone and the Pirates spring to mind), but the Zimmers do not fall into this category–their an adman’s idea of a endearing gimmic. And anyway the real Who are quite old enough themselves!
